Advertising With Safelists
By Jennie Crawford
Have you tried advertising using safelists? I have and I have found the whole process to be very frustrating. There is a great deal of work involved in safelist advertising. You need to write your ads so that they will capture attention. Your headline is probably the most important part of safelist advertising because that is what people will skim over to decide whether or not they are going to read your email. I know that I am subscribed to several safelists and if the headline doesn’t sound interesting, it goes right in the trash. I also automatically delete headlines that are exactly the same. So to be successful you need to be creative.
I am not sure that safelist advertising is worth the time you need to put into it to be successful. The system should work, but I’m not sure it does. I think that most of the emails sent out get deleted without even being opened.
I believe your time and energy can be much better spent on other types of advertising. Creating your own opt in list for example. This is basically the same as a safelist in that the people have indicated that they are interested in receiving your emails, but I believe it is more targeted to people who are actually interested in what you are promoting. The list may be smaller, but the people on it are probably interested in what you are offering. You can also offer the people on your list articles and helpful information that will keep them subscribed to your list. This will cultivate trust and they will be more likely to invest in whatever product you are promoting.
Another type of advertising for the affiliate marketer is of course pay per click programs. These are probably one of the most effective ways to advertise. The drawback is that you do need to have some type of advertising budget to be successful. I believe that you will be more successful with pay per click marketing simply because people who are interested in your product will click on your ad. Your ad is not just being sent to thousands of people, most of whom have no interest in what you are promoting or are promoting the same thing themself.
I think that there are many more effective ways to advertise then with safelists. I have tried them without any success. I must also admit to not read many of the emails that are sent to my safelist address, so I can only assume that many people do the same and send them right to the trash.
