A Cure for Acne Sufferers
By Melanie Vasseur
There are millions of people around the world who suffer with acne (Zits); fortunately treatments are improving all the time. A great deal of effort is going into research for a cure; in fact many new remedies are proving very effective. For those people that require treatment, the acne skin care products required fall broadly into a number of categories including:
Those that help prevent the condition
Those available at a drugstore or over-the-counter
Prescription: Dermatologist or Doctor, specialist cream or ointment
General or preventative acne products form a large section of the skin care market; these products can be anything from skin cleansers to makeup removers. Many people use products similar to this every day as part of their skin care regime; in many instances the user has never had a skin condition to worry about. Many of these cleansers act in almost exactly the same way as acne skin care products; they are formulated to reduce and limit the amount of oil in the pores of our skin. These products prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and can hamper the growth of bacteria, this can lead to the bad skin condition.
Other skin care treatments can help exfoliate the skin; these are easily obtainable in any drug store. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores. There is a huge market for these types of acne skin care products as they don't require a consultation with a dermatologist. These products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as ingredients which cause a bad reaction in the bacterium. these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.
Although benzoyl peroxide works well, reactions can happen so it is suggested that any skin care product containing this should not have more than 5.5 percent of the active ingredient; should a reaction occur, products containing alpha hydroxy acid are generally safer. As with any type of zit cream, you may need to try a few acne skin care products until you find one that will suit your skin; however, if finding an effective remedy it is proving to be a problem then consult with your doctor, or skin care specialist. Products that your dermatologist or doctor will recommend will only be available on prescription, they may include a course of antibiotics or topical ointments.
In more serious cases your skin care specialist may decide that a small surgical procedure can be used to remove the oil and infection from your pores; this is not something you should ever attempt yourself. Your doctor could prescribe a hormone-based treatment to treat your skin problem; this type of skin care treatment has been very effective in many cases. Constant research has paid off, and whilst they cannot cure the condition, it is becoming easier to treat.
