Custom Ink Pens One of a Few Ways to Show School Spirit
Author: Jeremy P Stanfords
Every school has its proud students and alumni who represent every chance they get, both in and outside the classroom. Some may attend every pep rally, while others wear custom T-shirts, complete with the school colors. However, there are other ways a student can let everyone know where he or she hails from. And by showing their pride, it is a possibility the school spirit can catch on to classmates too.
Customized Gear
Wearing a shirt or hat with the mascot displayed is probably the easiest way to show pride. However, there is other paraphernalia that also attracts attention. For example, you go to a store and sign the receipt. However, instead of a traditional ink pen, you pull out one of your school's customized pens, complete with a picture of the mascot. When you sign, it pen lets the cashier and other customers know that you are a proud Eagle, Tiger, or Bulldog. It may even spark a little friendly rivalry in line.
When a teen gets his or her driver's license, they are often proud to show off the fact that they can simply drive. They may also show off their pride by adding a few things to their vehicle. With a bumper sticker, car magnet, or license plate cover they can brag about the school they attend or graduated from, as they drive to and from school.
Committees and Organizations
Do you play an instrument? If so, consider joining the school's marching band. Every Friday or Saturday in the fall, students get to attend football games, and occasionally travel out-of-town for competitions. During games, they play some of the more popular songs on the radio, and act as entertainment on behalf of the school. The halftime show does require one to be coordinated enough to walk and play at the same time though.
If you are not musically inclined, some schools have a spirit squad that promotes unity throughout the student body. Popularized by Duke University's "Cameron Crazies", these organizations act as cheerleaders in the stands, and often attend every home game, and do their best to make visiting crowds and teams feel as uncomfortable as possible. Be prepared to exercise though; the spirit squads often do a lot of jumping and dancing.
Attend the Games
Even if you do not represent the band or spirit committee, going to games allows a student to show his or her support for the team. In addition to being part of the crowd, wearing a shirt or face paint and cheering to the chants, as well as during big plays, is a big part of displaying school spirit and socializing.
