Hot Hair Trends for Summer
Summer's here, and for many women, that means a fun, flirty new 'do. But summer hair has its own set of challenges, too.
Thirty-four percent of women between the ages of 25 and 55 say dryness is their top concern for summer, followed by frizz, breakage, sun lightening and chlorine damage, according to a survey conducted by Aussie Hair Care.
Lisa Chiccine, stylist for Infusium 23, has identified some of this season's top trends, and provides the following tips for summer hair care:
* This season's hair color is "butterscotch," so think caramel colors.
To get this look, tell your colorist to put thick but lighter-colored streaks near the front of your face. Then apply thinner sections of the same tone as your hair tapers back.
* Ponytails are out this season; messy buns are in.
First, brush your hair into a ponytail and then secure it with an elastic band at the nape of your neck.
With a pick comb, tease your hair and then wrap it in a bun. Spritz some hair spray to hold the look.
* Unfurl the curl. Instead of curls, think big waves - like the ocean.
Take a large barrel curler and wrap large sections of your hair around the outside of it. Do not stick your hair in between the tongs, as this will cause denting.
You should be able to wrap your entire head of hair in six big sections around the curler. If you have straight hair, this will give it some body; if you have frizzy hair, this will create a cleaner look without much effort.
* The biggest trend for this season is shine.
Apply a shine product onto hair and apply heat with a blow dryer. To achieve the ultimate shine, invest in a blow dryer with a super-thin nozzle. The thinner the nozzle, the more shine is achieved.
Hair experts recommend a variety of serums, sprays and leave-in treatments for soft, shiny hair.
One to try is Aussie Sun-Touched Shine Conditioning Shine Spray, which contains sea kelp for thirsty locks. Spritz onto clean, damp hair and work it through without rinsing. Then style your hair as usual. This and other Aussie products are available in stores nationwide for $2.99.
