Effects of Acne in General
By Esteri Maina
Acne otherwise called acne vulgaris is a skin inflammatory disease caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units- skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and sebaceous gland linked with it.
Dermatologists agree that every human skin consist also of bacteria called bacterium P. acnes which are blamed greatly for acne occurrence.
They feast on the sebum plus the dead skin cells that clog the hair follicles and the generous gratitude happens to be symptoms such as severe puffiness, itching, and flushness around the follicle-acne.
Acne is not what anyone would wish for, but if it does occur on your skin, here are the effects you should expect.
Physical effects
As if the bacteria p.acnes does not comprehend the importance of having a dazzling skin appearance, most of its agonizing effects will be physical and thus visible.
Though one may be able to keep the body acne hushed, the facial one will always be conspicuous for the world to see. This will be in form of:
Acne lesions
These are usually referred to as pimples, spots or "zits", and less commonly as gubers or plooks. These can further be grouped into either;
Whiteheads
This is when the plug in the follicle remains underneath the skin's surface. You can feel them by touching or even see them when they become bumpy.
Blackheads
This is when the plug in the follicle pulls out to the skin's surface and becomes detectable.
The blackheads are themselves harmless but if they are carelessly handled by squeezing, pus-forming organisms invade the area and infection results.
Scars of acne
Bad acne often will lead to ugly acne scars after persist battles with it for many years to no avail. These can be grouped into:
Shallow acne scars
These are mild acne outcomes that can clear away with time if given proper care. Chemical peels can be used for superficial acne scars.
Sunken acne scars
These are profound acne scars that are visible from the outside (epidermis) and cause severe damage to the dermis or inner layer of the skin as well.
Fortunately, there are obtainable treatments which restore the skin to the natural tone and appearance.
Dermabrasion can break through the skin from the epidermis to the deepest level or the dermis
To some people, acne can only be described as their crosses that they will shoulder forever, because all the treatments in the market does not work for them.
Psychological effects
Do not ever underestimate the psychological effects of acne. Some whose acne disorder is a practicality got trapped and lost in their own world of self hate and desperation.
This disconnected them from the rest of the world, trying all acne treatment in vain. They can not even stand in front of the mirror and love themselves for anything,
Monetary effects
Acne problems can eventually come to an end. However this is not to be without you sacrificing a lot of money that you could use for other needs.
Obviously this hurts especially when one start asking the question why this disorder only falls in love with her skin.
At times if you can not afford the cost of a private dermatologist, you could be forced to endure the suffering.
Acne treatments are expensive not only in terms of money but because many of these cure do not deliver expected results.
Some will even aggravate the problem instead of curing it. I too happen to have suffered severely from body- the one that attacks the back and chest skin.
