Your "Hello Tunes" and Your "Interview Calls"

By Sanjeev Himachali

I hope that people on other side will not take this write-up as an intrusion into their private life. We all have write to select the things that we like and want to live with that includes the type of music that we like; songs that we sing; locations that we like to travel to; people we like to meet; cities, we like to go to; cloths that we like to wear etc etc etc and such things forms the part of our private life. Anybody interfering in that is called as “Private Intrusion”. But, as I have said in one of the earlier write-up that “when you start doing your private things in public or when your private things become public, then others have every right to raise their objections and make comments”.

These days, as we are growing modern with the influence of some westernization, we see a new trend among people of all age groups and both genders and this trend is of setting “Hello Tunes” on your phones…especially mobile phones. Imagine you make a call to one candidate for an interview and end-up with listening to songs like, “Bhegey Hont Tere” or “Agar tum Mil Jao” or “I just want to make love to you” or “Kajrarey-Kajrarey” or “Chand Sifarish” or “Dil janiya” etc etc etc. Will you call that person again? One can ignore such behavior or such choices if the interview-call is for entry-level positions, but what will you do if you are looking for a senior guy – a person for Assistant Manager and above positions and end-up with listening such type of songs???

Most of the time these “Hello Tunes” are dedicated to those one or two “Special” people of our life, whom be love, but is it necessary for us to let the whole world know about it? If that is the case, then one should we able to keep two mobiles, one for professional-circle and another for personal-circle.

If there are corporate tunes, then yes…that is not unprofessional but it is part of your profession, for example ICICI Bank is having Corporate-Tune for its employees. I think having “Bollywood Song” or any type of song as your “Hello Tune” is unprofessional and this is something that we can avoid. Even the culture that you are trying to copy, “Western Culture”, there also people are professional enough to not to have such type of tunes, as “Hello Tunes”

These are my personal opinions and views on “Hello Tunes” and Professionalism. It may or may not be the verdict of “ Total Corporate World” or “HR Community”. As we grow in our career and age we are expected to do certain things…and are not expected to do few other things; we are expected to behave in a certain manner…and avoid some other behavioral aspects…so choice is yours.

Looking forward to your comments and opinion.

With love and care,
