Small Business Security No Passing Fad
How careful are you with the data you collect from your customers? How about the handling of money in your business. And passwords? What controls have you put in place to protect computer data? We don't often think about the security of our businesses, but we should. Customers are becoming increasingly aware that their details could be vulnerable if a business is not secure. And that's a good thing. But it can be a bomb waiting to drop really bad news on your business if you're not careful. According to security experts, here are some things you can do to make your business more secure. - Establish and enforce procedures for handling customer data. - Monitor areas where cash is handled. - Conduct background checks and drug screening on potential employees to help you hire right the first time. - Have regular employee meetings to discuss issues. - Conduct surprise audits. One of your keys to success is to handle customer data as if it you're your own. You wouldn't throw your credit cards out on the sidewalk for anyone to take would you? Or post your address on some bathroom wall for all to see. Don't do it with your customers' information either. Handle those details like they were solid gold (they are!).
