Human Motion, Walking, Running and Gait for Identification
Identifying a human gait, walking patterns, running exists. Can such records be of value? Many think so. Why is this so important? Well every time Bin Laden is on TV no one knows if it is real or not. You cannot take a DNA sample, no retina scanning, fingerprints, well then facial recognition? Harder on video tapes at only one angle. Some ones gait could be viewed and downloaded by a sniper to decide if this is the correct target, although chances are it is best to kill all the doubles anyway, the fewer they have the closer you are to the primary targets. We can certainly thank the movie industry and specifically the animation Gurus in Burbank, CA. Much of the differences in gait has to do with the knee and foot and the geometry associated with it. There has been much work on these ideas and many worthy projects and good information and of course science seems to mimic nature often and there is one modeling of an interesting creature of the Snake. http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nngroup...tabb-amdo00.pdf . Now there are many issues with this for instance women wearing high heel shoes which boost up their nice toushy buns and extend their length and can screw up the geometry of their lower than knee areas of course this all depends on the exact length of their heels. Now some women have closets full of shoes and can literally wear a different pair every day, sometimes several shoes per day, Nikes or New Balance for Soccer Mom efforts, sandals and high heels for events. Also with sores on feet, carrying packages fumbling keys and carrying kids or other can screw up the data set for positive ID and for these reasons I am concerned about the current knowledge and ability to identify within reason the individual by gait. And having been an athlete in my prior life, I can tell you while running at different speeds I had many different strides. Also the degree of fatigue, shoes, soreness of different limbs. So this is good to study to teach PhD students to think, but really we have not yet figured this out yet, I fear it is not the best choice of identification, but could be used as a negative identifier. For instance that particular gait is not within the realm of possibilities of said individual. However, in the future we should see where this takes us in the way of research, because this could in fact be a very valuable tool for Homeland Security. Acoustic Transducers To Detect And Eliminate Incoming Mortar Rounds There maybe a way to use acoustic transducers to pin-point incoming enemy ordinance such as mortar rounds in order to shoot them down. Directional sound waves from acoustic transducers set at specific locations around friendly locations can create artificial barriers, which the incoming ordinance will have to pass to reach its target and thus be detected and triangulated or quadrangulated for interception. A Unique History of the Light Bulb Most people assume that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. This is only partially true however. Debunking the Debunker In History and Science:INSPIRATIONAL COMMENTS:"Everybody was glad that I was living; but as I lay there thinking about the wonderful place where I had been and all that I had seen, I was very sad; for it seemed to me that everybody ought to know about it, but I was afraid to tell, because I knew that nobody would believe me. - John G. The Intricacies of a Compound Microscope Have you ever used a compound microscope? Your first thought may be to answer "no" but chances are if you had Biology in high school or college that you have used a compound microscope. What do you remember about this microscope? You may remember what it looks like but can you recall how it worked? If not, this article is for you!A compound microscope uses light to illuminate the sample or object so that you can see it with your eye. That Dust on Your Car May Soon Be Smarter Than You Think? Here is a thought to get this topic started. A thought on a smart dust design. Creating Artificial Time in a Vacuum With Pulsed Lasers Keying off a very interesting concept confined within Static Quantum Theory and looking for the edge of time or the end of energy or the Quantum Borderline or virtual boarder of nothing. One might use the idea of pulsed lasers created in a defined confined area of a vacuum to create a singularity of a pulsed laser, whose immediate disruption pulses of the singularity which would follow would reach the end of the confinement area faster than the light which would in fact be created and then this traveling disruption would trigger another pulsed laser reciprocal event on the far side of the confinement whose pulsed laser would send it's disruption of the event to occur to the original point of the first singularity of the original laser or starting point, which would trigger the turning off of the first laser before it created the event of singularity or light. The Impact of Efficient Epistemologies on Algorithms In recent years, much research has been devoted to the refinement of gigabit switches; nevertheless, few have constructed the synthesis of neural networks. The notion that cryptographers connect with large-scale theory is generally considered appropriate. UAV Acoustic Apparatus for Insect Swarming Stimulus, part one Can we coax warms of Locusts to attack our enemies? It appears we can do this by way of directional sound stimulus. This is a much debated topic indeed, so please read.http://www. Using High Altitude Blimp Cell Phone Communication By allowing high altitude Satellite Type Balloons or Blimps with Cell Phone type communications we could have a tremendous secondary back-up for communication. Also we could use this high altitude blimp to send out frequencies good for health, such as the Earth's frequency of 7. Eugenics and the Future of the Human Species "It is clear that modern medicine has created a serious dilemma .. The Bill Clinton Neuron And The Sweat Neuron In the world of science, there is excited speculation about recent discoveries of individual neurons in the brain, with striking capabilities. They had discovered a neuron, which fired on recognition of just one special face. Hobbits and Lice HOBBITS AND LICE:In late 2004 the media was all agog with the small hominids found on Flores Island where I had written about artifacts showing sea travel technology must have existed. I had argued with many people about the issue and their argument had some merit in that we had no proof of a connection to humans or the nearby Mungo Man. Weather Control and Creation to Use as a Screen for Troop Advancement Creating a Hurricane using a Space based laser array to heat up surface waters when conditions are right. Living In Arizona Boulders--Where Did They Come From? When most people think of building a secluded home, they think of tall trees and large bushes. Whispering Windows For Observation Decks of ISS and Moon Colonies Talking glass, which was featured recently in the famous Tom Cruise Movie "Minority Report" where advertising would spring to life and communicate with the actor; is not new science. In fact it has been around since the 1940's and some believe that the ghost of Lincoln, which was discussed in the biographies of Richard Nixon as being in the White House when looking at his picture on the wall was Whispering Windows Technology. Making Diamonds Using The Earth We can make diamonds using the Earth's inner forces, extreme pressure and heat. We simply send Carbon Blocks in tubes, which have been drilled into the Earth's Mantle. Military Convoy Artificial Tubes for Safe Travel There appears to be a way to control the safety of an entire convoy of logistical vehicles on a long highway, with no close air support and completely removed from satellite communication or AWACS Surveillance. Let me explain this concept. Where Do Insects Go When It Rains? Have you ever wondered where insects go when it rains? We have all seen a poor unfortunate spider washed down the plughole so we know how vulnerable they are to rushing water. Surely then, isn't rain one of their worst enemies?Sorry, but this is one of these "it depends" things. Fire Escape System Concept What if in the event of a fire the building system started putting out instructions using sound waves of the best possible escape route? Using the pictures on the wall and windows to guide trapped occupants and guide them to the safest exit? It is all possible now due to an old technology which is now being used thru a transfer into the public domain. Smoke inhalation is the number one cause of death in fires. |
