The Wall of Honor
Many Americans have children, fathers, mothers, grandparents, other family members and friends who have served in the armed forces. For these individuals, they understand the importance of protecting this country because of the sacrifices these American servicemen and women have made for us as citizens of this great nation. In our home, we have a wall of honor. This wall honors my father, LeRoy C. Hoagland, my father-in-law, Richard Smith, my husband, Kenneth R. Smith and my step-son Korbet Smith. On this wall are their pictures, their medals and for two of them, the flags presented to the family upon their deaths. Three of these men served in two wars, WWII and Vietnam. One of them, my father, received the Purple Heart from the largest naval battle in history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was left to die on the beach because of the severity of his wounds. However, 24 hours later, a medic realized he was still alive and transported him to a medical ship bound for Australia. Dad was airlifted to San Diego, CA where he spent 2 years and faced over 10 major operations. As we celebrate this day of prayer and remembrance, we must recognize that without the sacrifices of past and current service personnel, we would not have the opportunity to be the greatest country in the world. Even though today is a national day of recognition for those honorable women and men, we all should take a few moments every day to offer prays for these courageous individuals. For it is the walls of honor within those American families that allow us to "still hold these truths to be self-evident." Leanne Hoagland-Smith, M.S. The Power of Media: Russian Perspective Journalism, as it is often said, is the 'fourth branch of power', along with legislative, executive and judiciary, not any less mighty than those three, even if not legally endorsed in the Russian constitution. It is the power of symbolism, and it cannot be escaped, but can only "used" to bring truth, or "abused" to bring propaganda. 3D Modeling for Healthy Forests Forest Vegetation Simulations for Fire Prevention, Healthy Forest and Saving Lives. Prosecutors with political ambitions are known to modify the truth or withhold evidence in order to get a conviction. It is so common in fact that the greater the political ambitions the greater the unethical ness of their tenure as a prosecutor. Federal Trade Commission Falsely Purports Franchise Disclosure is Cost Effective In a recent report on the status of the Franchising Industry, the Federal Trade Commission knowingly and falsely purported that its Franchise Disclosure Rules are cost effective. In fact; there is nothing inexpensive or "cost-effective" about the 190 to 230 pages of disclosures that franchisors must give to prospective franchisees. US Government Sore Losers in Not So Neighborly Dispute I'm getting a little tired of being lectured by that "pin-headed, pencil-necked" whiner David Wilkins, about what Canada should do and not do with respect to the failed softwood lumber talks.Wilkins, the US Ambassador to Canada, said today that Canadian politicians should stop their ''emotional tirades'' and order the country's trade representatives back to the bargaining table to reach a final settlement. US Government Owes Martha Stewart 1 Billion Dollars The prosecutors in the Martha Stewart Case used testimony from an FBI agent who lied under oath to secure a conviction. The prosecutors knowingly and willfully allowed the FBI agent to tell a lie while he was a witness in the courtroom. North Korea and Diplomatic Solutions; Random Thoughts Part II North Korea and diplomatic games; something has to give and negotiating with those who renege on promises in treaties is a problematic issue for the United States. North Korea and Diplomatic Solutions; Random Thoughts Part III Sizing up North Korea is important for a war there. We must leave all options on the table and of course give the Chairman of North Korea the respect he wishes while remaining firm as Hell until it freezes over in fact if that's what it takes; I now conclude my random thoughts over the last few years on North Korea and Diplomatic Solutions. May Day, May Day Down The Bush and BlairBy now everyone, except us, is pissed and the party continues even though it's well past closing time. For as happens a few times a year in Britain it's a bank holiday tomorrow, an antiquated and wonderful excuse to turn Sunday into Saturday and Monday into Sunday, even though it's actually May Day (the first) today. Is Reinstating The Draft Such a Bad Idea? In his bid for the presidency, John Kerry pronounced a "secret plan" to reinstate selective service.
