The Potential Of Colloidal Silver Water
Author: Jenifer Whitmire
Some people say that it's a miracle cure. Others say it's just a marketing ploy to make money out of gullible consumers and that there's no scientific or medical proof that it can do any good. In fact, there are people who say it's downright dangerous. The jury is still not out on whether colloidal silver water is good or bad.
For thousands of years, silver has been used in medicine. It can kill fungi and bacteria, so it's been a way to keep food safe to eat for longer periods of time. Its antibacterial qualities means that even today it's being used in wound dressings. Catheters often contain the metal; so do breathing tubes and things like bone prostheses.
Colloidal silver is not the metal itself. Instead it's a liquid that consists of water with tiny particles of the metallic element. Each of these particles has a positive electric charge. Because, like magnets, two positive particles push each other away, they are suspended in the water all the time.
Before antibiotics became a common way of fighting disease, doctors often used the liquid to kill bacteria. In the form of eye drops it would help relieve infections of the eye, but the substance was also used as a cure for other diseases. Because of its properties as a disinfectant, it is a way to treat water so that it is safe to drink. However, some manufacturers have been claiming that it can cure diseases like tuberculosis and AIDS. Since they can't substantiate these claims, this has led to controversy and strict controls by organizations like the FDA when it comes to marketing these products.
While the product certainly has its benefits, it can have some side effects too. This is especially the case if you take in too much of it and the metal builds up in your body. Side effects range from stomach pains, fatigue and headaches to serious problems like liver and kidney damage or seizures. Some medicines don't react well with the substance either and can lose their effectiveness.
In many cases where people have used too much of the product for extended periods, these people developed argyria. When you have argyria, the build-up of the metal in your body reacts with sunlight, so that you develop a blue-grey discoloration. This is most visible in the skin, eyes, nails and gums, but also takes place in your deep tissues. The only way to treat it is with laser treatment, but this only works in small areas.
Finding the controversial liquid is very easy. You can make it at home by following simple instructions that you can get online. If the process of charging a special mixture of silver and water with electricity sounds too complicated, it's possible to buy ready-made products at your local health store or online.
Since there hasn't been much definitive research results about the pros and cons of colloidal silver water, it's up to you to decide whether you think the benefits outweigh the risks. It is your body, after all. However, if you want to try this liquid, keep the dosage very small to reduce the risk of overexposure to the metal.
