Building Your Bankroll
The first thing one needs to do before they even think about laying a bet down is: set your bankroll before the season even begins. You have to know how much money you are going to start with. To clarify what a bankroll is, it's the total amount you have saved up, put in dresser and so on, and can afford to lose and not effect the way you eat, sleep, live, etc?
Next, one needs to set a base amount or percentage of their bankroll that they are going to bet on each game. This means, it will be the same amount for each game all year. Now you may be thinking, what if you have a for sure bet, shouldn't you bump it up?
Remember this, no matter how much someone tells you they have a "lock" or sure bet, there is no such thing! We strive for 100% every time but that most likely will not happen. If it were true we could get 100% correct, we would all be millionaires. You are doing the set amount for one thing: making it through the long haul of the season. If one was to bet a set amount for the season and hit on a clip of 60% there is a real good chance of doubling your money!
I don't know of anybody who doesn't mind doubling their money in just a few short months. Last thing to remember when it comes to setting a base amount to bet, make sure the amount is an amount you are at ease with. There will be times where the weeks are not too kind to you, so by betting a easy set amount, you won't feel too bad when those weeks come by.
Lastly, Do Not Play Catch-Up! If you are betting a set amount and are on a losing streak, do not try and play catch up because it will end up biting you in the butt. Remember, by setting an amount on each game, all you need to do is hit 50% of the games for the year and you break even minus the vig. If you are behind and feel you need to play catch up and double or triple your set amount to "catch-up" your bankroll can take a dramatic hit.
If you keep your set amount through the season anything above 50% winning percentage will give a profit at the end of the season! There is no real reason to play catch-up and it is not worth the risk!
