Extra Steps to Keep Your Skin Healthy This Winter
Winter weather can rob your complexion of its healthy glow. Between the wind outside and the heat indoors, keeping skin in tip-top shape proves to be a seasonal challenge.
But winter doesn't have to mean dull skin and chapped lips. Here are some tips for women hoping to keep their skin looking and feeling healthy well into the spring.
- Use a humidifier. Heating your home means dry air, which can cause itchy or cracked skin. Humidifiers put moisture back into the air. Invest in several small humidifiers, and place them throughout your house or in your office.
- Drink water. You might not be sweating as much as you did in August, but that doesn't mean you can hydrate on hot cocoa alone. Water flushes away toxins and keeps skin cells elastic. If you need something warm, consider herbal teas or hot water with a squeeze of lemon.
- Boost your skin care routine. Women often wish they didn't "have" to wear make-up, so why not take the winter months to invest extra time in your skin?
Consider exfoliating your skin once or twice weekly with a scrub to help remove dead skin cells and help restore a fresher appearance.
After exfoliating, but before applying moisturizer, use a serum such as the Aveeno Positively Radiant Triple Boosting Serum to help brighten and even your skin tone. The serum contains the highest level of total soy complex to help visibly diminish skin discoloration and sun spots, as well as vitamins and anti-oxidants that can help prevent signs of aging.
- Use sunscreen. The sun can still cause skin damage, even with temperatures below freezing. Snow can reflect rays, giving off a double-dose of harmful exposure. Apply SPF 15 or higher to your face and any other exposed areas before stepping outside. The sunscreen will help protect skin from the sun's damaging rays and provide a moisturizing barrier between the wind and your skin.
